The 2008 2009 Chevrolet Silverado enters the arena boasting the capabilities of a true work horse wrapped in a refined body style, more luxurious interior and delivers an exceptionally smooth, impressive ride for such a heavy duty truck.
Surprisingly fuel efficient, the 2008 2009 Silverado and Silverado HD combine to offer six engine and four transmission choices with a selection of three cab sizes. Ranging from the dependable Vortec 4.3L V6 to the herculean 367-hp Vortec MAX 6.0L V8, there is a Silverado built to accommodate a variety of trucking needs. Standard transmissions include an automatic 4 speed and 6 speed, both with automatic overdrive. The 6 speed automatic transmission features effortless fingertip controls.
Active fuel management and E85 ethanol compatibility plays a big role in the fuel efficiency of the 2008 2009 Silverado. The 5.3 and 6.0 L V8 engines use variable cylinder engagement capabilities to deliver power when you need it and will deactivate four of the eight cylinders when you don't. Cylinders are seamlessly reactivated and deactivated in an almost undetectable manner as power requirements change. Two available Vortec flex fuel 5.3 L V8's can run on either gas or a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gas. E85 ethanol is a mostly renewable fuel source, cleaner burning and typically has a more enhanced octane grade than regular unleaded gasoline, which can result in slightly higher horsepower and torque levels.
The comfort, safety and convenience features of the 2008 2009 Silverado, such as the OnStar system, tire deflation sensors, chrome cow-catchers, heated cowhide seating and power adjustable pedals have in no way affected the primary purpose of the Silverado, which provides the power you need to get the job done. With a choice of a regular cab, crew cab or extended cab you can also choose whether or not you would like the ability to transport up to 5 passengers.
